Had cataracts in both eyes done and it was like going from a fuzzy old black and white TV with a fuzzy screen on a dark night in the fog to ultra high def 4k Ultra wide screen. Have to wear specs for reading but so what. I can see for miles and I am no longer a danger to myself and other road users.Plus I can now find the fucking golf bal, obviously because i hit it such a long way.
Amazing, all on the NHS so no cost. East Grinstead eye hospital, amazing, thanks for the new eyes last year at 61

Re: Laser eye surgery

Ultimately it depends how bad your vision is. I was +7.5 and +7.75 with another +1 for reading. I wore coke bottle glasses from age 5 to 46. I had my eyes tested and the girl explained to me that I needed multifocals with numerous zones which would cost over £600 for just the lenses. I was already researching the replacement surgery so went for it. It would have cost £7000 in London, but I paid about half that in Prague. In theory I should be glasses free for life, and can't get cataracts. If I was just getting a bit old and needed reading glasses, I wouldn't do it though.

My Brother is a Contact Lens specialist and has always said that I shouldn't do it - one thing is as you get older you may well need reading glasses, I have varifocal glasses and with contacts can compensate by having one lens for near site and one for distance- the brain automatically compensates for it and adjusts for near and distance sight.
I wouldn't bother unless like a previous poster you've got a -7 or worse prescription.

Just don't do it. Researched this a while back to see if it would correct previous surgery (RK - pre-laser treatment) Came across the lasik complications facebook group and joined up. The horror stories will soon steer you away from laser eye surgery. There have been suicides, constant dry-eye, constant pain, job losses, inability to drive or to drive at night, 'halo' effect. For some people, there is no greater regret they have had in life.

I had my lenses replaced in 2013 in Prague. Refractive lens exchange it was called. I wish it was free for me. If you are wondering, the wobbly lens effect goes away, as does the edge to your peripheral vision. I remember how sharp my vision was, for the first time ever. Didn't last though. Can still see well, but not like when it was first done.

I think Steven should spend the money on more pressing matters such as his chronic dullness. Far more debilitating than his countless other faults.

I had to have a cataract removed 3 weeks ago today. Had a new lens put in, it took 20 mins in theater. An eye patch until the next morning and then only at night for 2 weeks. No problems just a bloodshot eye for a few days. Did not cost me anything at St George’s hospital.

Had lasik surgery two years ago. -7 and -7-75 plus astigmatism. No need for reading glasses yet but I’m close, I was warned about this. Did the op to keep my job which has strict medical requirements. 2bags from Optimax it cost me. All good and better than 20/20 whereas before I’d give mr magoo a run for he’s money.

I'm pretty short sighted and wear glasses and did ask my optician about this but he said I would just need reading glasses which TBH seems more hassle than having specs and just looking under them or taking them off to read.

Same as Bertie, the wife had it done over 20 years ago and it has been excellent and cost effective as don't have to keep shelling out for contacts etc.

Had it done 20 years ago, overall it’s been fantastic. It is inconvenient for a couple of days but that’s a small price to pay.

My brother in law had it done a few years back for a slight short sightedness correction, cost him a couple of grand. Next thing he knew he needed reading glasses which he didn't before, regrets the surgery big time.

Mate had it done over 20 years ago ,needs glasses to drive now so pretty good value all in all.
I’m with nurse tho. Wearing bins is only a slight inconvenience compared to anything going wrong.

I had it done 1½ ago. Total price with examination, medicine and surgery at £500 It was done in Romania, as I know some doctors there. They put me in touch with a bloke who is renowned world wide within this field of medicine.
Only downside is that you get a perfect clear picture of your missus.

Had one eye done 21 years ago in a clinic in Harley St. No issues since. They advised against both eyes and if I had both done I would now need reading glasses.
